I went to XXXX XXXX located in XXXX, Washington to purchase a used car. I was already pre-approved through XXXX XXXX for the loan and had a check in hand with me. I was putting down {$5000.00} as a down payment. The guy said he needed to run my credit. I asked why? Im pre-approved through my bank already. He said its a soft hit for the check to verify it. I said okay, No need to check my credit for a loan approval. They took my ssn, drivers license and information and after 20 minutes I got a notice to my email saying there was a inquiry to my credit report. I was angry because I had just got a inquiry getting the loan approved through my bank. The employee at the dealer kept lying saying he didnt pull my credit report and it was just a soft hit to verify the check. I said why didnt you call the bank to verify the check. He said they always do a soft verification for checks. He was lying. Another couple was getting a car and presented a check and I didnt hear them tell them they would have to check their credit for the check. They kept saying they didnt do a hard hit but they did. I went back and forth with the manager trying to get it removed over the phone for several weeks. He said he would take care of it and never did. The credit bureaus dont allow you to dispute a hard hit online. You have to send in a letter and go through several inconvenience steps when this should have never happened. I want this inquiry removed. I feel they only verified me because I was a XXXX guy presenting this check!
