SECURITY FREEZE FOR MINOR In XX/XX/2021, I submitted all documentation required by Equifax in order to place a security freeze on my minor childs account. I received back a letter dated XX/XX/2021 stating that I failed to submit my government issued ID and an item to validate my address. Contrary to the statements in the letter, I submitted my drivers license and XX/XX/2021 utility bill. Additionally, the letter contained the WRONG street number for my sons and my address. I called the number listed in the letter to correct these issues and to discuss an easier, quicker, and more secure way to resubmit documents. First, let me point out that it is ridiculous that all three of the nationwide CRAs only allow for submitting this VERY sensitive information via mail in order to place a security freeze for a minor. Second, the number listed on the letter was wholly unhelpful, as it did not lead to a person able to assist me since the child is a minor and does not yet have a credit file. I was subsequently given three different numbers to call. After chasing my own tail trying to get some answers, I finally spoke to someone who could at least look at the scanned documents that I submitted. He informed me that I submitted an unreadable copy of my drivers license. Incorrect. I made three copies of my drivers license and went them to all three nationwide CRAs. XXXX placed the security freeze based on what I sent, so I submit that Equifax has inadequate scanners and processes for verifying drivers licenses. The gentleman I spoke to also stated that he had no record of my utility bill. Equifax LOST my data. The gentleman I spoke to had no explanation for how my sons address got added to the XX/XX/2021, letter incorrectly, as it was apparently already correct in Equifaxs system. This situation is a blatant demonstration of irresponsibility with consumer data. It is also not a meaningful process by which to place a security freeze for a protected consumer, which is a federally required process. I submitted a complaint to Equifax through the gentleman I spoke to, but based on the lack of care demonstrated by Equifax thus far, I hold no confidence that I will hear back or receive resolution from Equifax.
