Our refinanced mortgage was issued by a local lender and then resold to AmericaHome Mortgage ( NJ, USA ). The refinance overestimated our annual property taxes by over 25 % ( over {$1000.00} ) and this extra money accumulated in the escrow account. AmericaHome withdrew the overestimated amount but then paid our actual tax, leaving over {$1000.00} in extra cash. On the escrow statement ( datedXX/XX/2021), this extra money disappeared entirely and did not reappear after the correct amount was paid to the city taxing authorities ( shown on the loan statement dated XX/XX/2021 ). Only when we repeatedly called AmeriHome did they find the leftover money that had gone missing and issue a refund check for the difference between the estimated property taxes and the actual property taxes. Similarly, only at our insistence did AmeriHome update the escrow account going forward to change the amount set aside for property taxes to the correct amount and reduce our monthly payments to the correct amount. I fear that customers who are less scrupulous about reading the fine print of their escrow statements and loan statements are at risk of being ripped off by this company since over {$1000.00} went suspiciously missing on their paperwork. Unchecked, this could have gone on every year for the 30 years of the mortgage.
