On XX/XX/year>, I sent XXXX a formal debt validation request regarding an alleged account they claimed I owed to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. On XX/XX/year>, XXXX responded with documents that appeared to come from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, but none of the information provided showed that XXXX owns the debt or has any legal authority to collect it. After receiving their response, I contacted XXXX directly. XXXX confirmed on a recorded line that the account was charged off and sold to a XXXX-party debt buyer, and that XXXX is not collecting on their behalf. This means XXXX has no ownership interest in the debt and no agency relationship giving them authority to collect it. Because XXXX failed to provide proper validation, I sent a second written demand for validation on XX/XX/year>, via certified mail. In that letter, I again requested the required documentation, including : A bill of sale or assignment agreement showing transfer of ownership to XXXX ; A full chain of assignment from the original creditor to whoever currently owns the debt ; Written authorization from the current debt owner permitting XXXX to collect ; Proof they are legally authorized to collect in my state. As of today, XXXX has still not provided any proof of ownership, assignment, or legal authority to collect this alleged debt, and they continue to represent that they are collecting a valid debt. Under the FDCPA, XXXX is required to validate the debt and prove their legal right to collect before continuing collection activity. They have not met these requirements. I am requesting that the CFPB require XXXX to : Stop all collection activity and communication ; Remove or prevent any negative credit reporting related to this account ; and Provide written proof of ownership or legal authorization if they believe they have any valid claim.
