Consumer Narrative
I took out a private student loan through Climb Credit for a XXXX XXXX. The program was marketed with a job guarantee and career outcomes that were misleading. Degree requirements to qualify for refunds and realistic job placement were not clearly disclosed before enrollment. I BELIEVED I withdrew after several months when I realized the representations did not match reality, but I am still being held liable for the full loan. I am requesting investigation, correction, and relief. Since then I tried resolving this issue here and I respectfully disagree with the companys response and believe it does not fully address the substance of my complaint. First, their response relies almost entirely on the existence of a signed loan and enrollment documents, while failing to address my central concern : that the XXXX program was marketed with misleading job guarantee and career outcome representations that were not clearly or adequately disclosed before enrollment. The existence of Truth in Lending disclosures does not negate potential deceptive or misleading marketing tactics tied to the underlying educational product being financed. Second, the claim that I did not attempt to withdraw from the course is inaccurate. I attempted to cancel the course on three separate occasions using the cancel button given to us by XXXX. To cancel there is a prompt pop up that states that a student may cancel by submitting a written request ( I want to cancel course ). It does not say that booking a call is required in order for cancellation to be processed. It fact says the exact opposite, in that to avoid booking a call I may submit that written request. Only after 3 attempts and failing to cancel did XXXX inform me through email that I was required to schedule a call on THEIR time in order to cancel. This requirement was not clearly disclosed at the time I attempted to cancel and was not presented when I used the cancellation button. As a result, my attempts to withdraw were effectively blocked by undisclosed procedural barriers. Third, continued access to the platform should not be interpreted as consent to remain enrolled or acceptance of the programs terms after discovering that material representations did not align with reality. Access alone does not negate attempted withdrawal or concerns regarding deceptive marketing. Finally, while Climb states it is solely a loan originator, the loan is directly tied to the financing of an educational program that was marketed with allegedly misleading claims. Financing a product that is later found to involve deceptive tactics remains a relevant consumer protection issue. For these reasons, I believe the response is incomplete and does not adequately address the misleading marketing, undisclosed cancellation requirements, or the substance of my complaint. I respectfully request that this feedback be included in the record for further review. Thank you for your consideration.
