Consumer Narrative
This complaint is a follow-up to previously closed CFPB complaints XXXX and XXXX involving Wells Fargo. I am requesting a second review of my fraud claim and your decision to deny reimbursement. The fraudster advanced funds from my credit card, transferred those funds into my checking account, and then increased the daily transfer limit. I did not authorize any of these actions. I did not request a cash advance. I did not approve a transfer. I did not approve a limit change. At the time this occurred, I was on the phone with the individual committing the fraud. Wells Fargo sent an email alert about unusual activity. I did not see it because I was actively being deceived. I never confirmed the transaction with Wells Fargo. I never verified that these transfers were legitimate. Despite this, the transactions were allowed to proceed. Your public statements describe advanced fraud monitoring and risk evaluation systems that monitor unexpected login attempts and out of pattern transactions in real time. A credit card cash advance, immediate transfer into checking, and a change in daily transfer limits is clearly out of pattern for my account. These actions should have triggered intervention and a hard stop until direct confirmation was obtained. Your website also states that Wells Fargo works with trusted cybersecurity partners and shares fraud intelligence across the industry to stay ahead of scams. The scheme used against me follows a well known pattern of social engineering and account takeover fraud. Given your stated industry partnerships and fraud intelligence sharing, this activity should have raised heightened concern. In addition, Wells Fargo highlights coordinated efforts with law enforcement to investigate fraud and respond quickly to threats. I am asking that my case be reviewed through that lens. The activity on my account reflects coordinated criminal conduct, not an authorized transaction dispute. I reported the fraud as soon as I realized what had occurred. I cooperated fully with your investigation. I am asking Wells Fargo to review how these transactions passed through your monitoring systems without confirmed authorization and to reconsider reimbursement of the stolen funds. Please reopen my claim and provide a detailed explanation of the fraud detection review conducted on my account, including what safeguards were triggered and why the transfers were not blocked pending confirmation. I respectfully request full reimbursement.
