1 ) I was notified by XXXX that a debt collector was attempting to collect debt 2 ) I called the debt collector immediately ( Columbia Debt Recovery LLC ) and was told this was in regard to a debt owed to an apartment agency in XXXX. I have never lived or applied to live in XXXX or authorized anyone to do this in my name. This is identity theft. I owned a medical practice in XXXX XXXX, XXXX where I live and did so at the time of this application. The representative told me to email XXXX and let them know it was fraud and to ask what else I needed to do. I did so on XX/XX/XXXX. 3 ) I reached out again via email on XX/XX/XXXX to the same email above. 4 ) I called Columbia Debt Recovery LLC on XXXX XXXX. It became clear that this company was not working to resolve the issue. I then emailed and certified mailed a Formal Dispute and Fraud Notice to which I attached an FTC Identity Theft Report. I asked that they provide me with a copy of the application bearing my signature. 5 ) When they finally contacted me on XX/XX/XXXX, they continue to try to seek payment for a total of {$160.00} despite this being fraud. They did not provide me with an application bearing my signature. The application they attached had the following errors- a. This application was completed in my maiden name and not my legal name. ( My legal name has been XXXX XXXX XXXX since XXXX. ) b. Incorrect DOB. The second representative supposedly verified who I was via my DOB which is unfortunate as she apparently did not verify it correctly. c. Incorrect phone number- I have never had this phone number- XXXX. d. Incorrect email- I have never had this email address- XXXX. e. Driver 's license appears to be from XXXX. I have never held a XXXX driver 's license. With all of these errors, you would think XXXX XXXX would work to resolve this. With a quick search of their business practices, it seems they are in the habit of attempting to collect debts they are aware of fraud. Given I have taken all appropriate steps without resolution, I am filing a CFPB complaint.
