On XX/XX/XXXX I accepted a Store card offer at the insistence of the checkout clerk at a XXXX XXXX store. I bought a power charger that could be used in a vehicle as I was going to XXXX to help family members who were devasted by XXXX XXXX. Purchase amount was {$58.00}. After leaving the store it dawned on me that the address used for the application was incorrect because I'd moved recently and my Driver 's License was not yet updated. I went back and was told to call the toll free number that was listed on the confirmation slip I received. I did that when I got home and advised of my new address. On XX/XX/XXXX, I travelled to XXXX. Since I would be away for an undetermined length of time, I had my partner periodically check mail and pay bills accordingly. There was no correspondence regarding this new store credit line - no statement, terms of agreement, or card for that matter. XXXX XXXX, communication efforts in XXXX have been challenging but eventually I found a related message in my spam folder from a company called XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, my partner called and obtained a balance of {$90.00} which included interest and a {$30.00} late fee. After explaining about not getting any mail etc, she was told the card was returned to their corporate office and destroyed. With that said, she requested a late fee waiver and asked to pay off remaining balance of {$60.00} and expressed the intention to close the account. The rep said the fee can only be refunded if there's a balance on the account so the instruction was to pay {$31.00} that day then pay remaining {$29.00} next day XX/XX/XXXX. This was done as instructed but when my partner followed up a few days later, not only was the late fee not waived, the balance seemed to have ballooned to over {$100.00}. It becomes quite clear now that this was meant to be PREDATORY. My bank statement shows total payment to XXXX for {$60.00}. Cost of goods {$58.00}. Given the unusual circumstances involved, not to mention the glaring acts of deception, misrepresentation and unfair actions which erode confidence, Fortiva has been instructed to reverse the fees and close the account since I NEVER received the necessary documentation required to operate this account.
