Consumer Narrative

I was a member of XXXX XXXX ( A gym/health club ) at XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX in XXXX. I had a monthly membership and also paid extra for a personal trainer. My membership number was XXXX. On or about XX/XX/XXXX of XXXX, I cancelled my membership due to medical issues and that I was making plans to move back to XXXX. I had fulfilled the terms of my contract and I also notified XXXX, the personal trainer, that I was leaving and would no longer be a client. On XX/XX/XXXX of XXXX, my account was once again debited for a monthly charge, approximately {$300.00}, and I contacted the gym to get them to reverse the charge, as I had already cancelled and was no longer a member. Every time I called, I was told the person who could do that was unavailable, but they would let him know and either he would call me back or it would be taken care of. No one ever called me back and it wasn't taken care of, so I finally disputed the charges with my bank, XXXX. I provided them a copy of the contract and my proof of payment and they reversed the charge and notified the gym. I still never heard from anyone, and I assumed it was over until XX/XX/XXXX, when I received an email from Aldous and Associates, a collections law firm that represents XXXX and other gyms ( attached below ). They stated in the email that I owed {$910.00}. I immediately contacted XXXX in XXXX and asked to speak to the person in charge and was again told he was " unavailable, '' but would call me back. This went on for a few days with no call back, but someone at the front desk finally gave me his email address, so I emailed him. He ( XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) XXXX ), then responded and we had a series of emails that went back and forth ( attached below ) where he asked for additional information, which I provided. On XX/XX/XXXX, he emailed me that the account had been settled and that I had been removed from collections. The email also included communication from the debt collector confirming the same. Then, on Thursday, XX/XX/XXXX, I received a phone call from Aldous and Associates still trying to collect the debt. I told them it was waived by XXXX and I had it in writing. They wouldn't listen and kept talking about offering me a " settlement. '' They have continued to call and today, I received two letters in the XXXX mail still stating that I am in collections for {$910.00}, but drafted on two different days, XX/XX/XXXX under reference number XXXX and on XX/XX/XXXX under reference number XXXX ( attached below ). This is extreme incompetence at best and harassment and unfair business and collection practices at worst. This complaint is toward both XXXX XXXX and Aldous and Associates for the above. They have not honored their agreement and continue unfair and improper collection practices against me.
