I am filing a complaint against Columbia Debt Recovery ( XXXX ) regarding an apartment lease that I never occupied and a debt that was placed on my credit without my authorization, notice, or proper validation. I signed a lease for an apartment that was not safe or habitable. Major repairs were not completed, and the floors in both the master bedroom and my childrens room were ripped up. Because of that, I could not move any of my belongings into the unit. After I signed the first lease, I was notified that I would need XXXX XXXX, and as a XXXX veteran, I informed the property that I required a first-floor unit. The assigned apartment was XXXX levels with the master bedroom upstairs, which I could not access. Due to the unsafe conditions and my medical limitations, I never moved into the apartment. The property required me to sign the lease twice due to inaccuracies, and I was never provided complete copies of any documents I signed. I did not authorize any transfer of a balance to a collection agency and was never notified that a transfer occurred. Months later, while calling XXXX to verify an account related to my husband, their representative unexpectedly found an account under my namesomething I had no knowledge of. They first claimed I did not owe anything, and then out of nowhere they called back, became aggressive, and attempted to collect. I have never received any written notice, validation, or documentation regarding this alleged debt. They also keep damaging my credit my increasing the amount every month. This violates multiple consumer protection laws, including : FDCPA 809 ( a ) ( 15 U.S.C. 1692g ( a ) ) failure to send a written Notice of Debt within 5 days FDCPA 807 ( 15 U.S.C. 1692e ) false, misleading, and inconsistent representations FDCPA 805 harassment and abusive conduct FCRA 623 ( a ) ( 3 ) furnishing disputed or inaccurate information without proper investigation FCRA 604 no permissible purpose to access, report, or furnish data on an invalid debt I never owed I am requesting : Immediate deletion of this inaccurate account from all credit bureaus. A full investigation into Columbia Debt Recoverys handling of my personal information. Proof of how my alleged account was created, transferred, or reported without notice, authorization, or debt validation. I never occupied the unit, I was not given proper notice, and these reporting and collection actions are unlawful.
