In XX/XX/year>, I fully paid off a credit card issued by Capital One bank. I paid the full account balance, bringing the balance down to XXXX dollars, and instructed a representative over the phone to close the account. However, after the account was closed, Capital One added fees, l to the account after it was closed. I called Capital One to inquire how this was possible and to ask them to remove the fees since the account was fully paid off and closed. They refuse to do this. I asked to be put in touch with an account manager, and they refuse to do this. I asked to be in touch with the legal team of Capital One and they refuse to provide that contact information. I asked if whatever fees, the lender was assessing could simply be waived, and they refuse to waive any fees as well. This was an account that was held in good standing for the course of many years with a good payment history. The method that Capital One is using to add fees to a closed account is unethical and insidiously deceptive. I would greatly appreciate the help of the consumer financial protection bureau in mitigating this issue, ensuring that fees are not assessed to my closed account, and returning the account to a XXXX balance since it was already closed in good standing.
