I received a debt collection notice dated XX/XX/year> from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX ) for {$1600.00} related to a City of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX bill dated XX/XX/year>. On XX/XX/year>, I spoke with XXXX by phone, and they asked me to provide my insurance information. They stated that they would send me a physical form to submit that information because they did not have an electronic process. I received their form, completed it, and sent it back by XXXX Certified Mail on XX/XX/year> ( proof of certified mail attached ). Despite that, XXXX issued the attached collection notice on XX/XX/year>, before my insurance claim was processed or even filed. When I called again after receiving the letter, XXXX confirmed that they filed the insurance claim only on XX/XX/year> and told me to ignore the collection notice. This means they initiated a collection while insurance adjudication was still pending, which is both premature and misleading. Under CFPB and credit-bureau medical-debt rules, medical debt can not be reported until insurance and appeals are fully resolved and at least 12 months after the date of service. The attempt to collect and potentially report this account within five months of the XX/XX/year> service violates those standards and caused unnecessary stress and harassment.
