20 years ago, I attended the XXXX XXXX XXXX as part of the XXXX XXXX XXXX program. I took out federal loans for part of it, which after paying for nearly 20 years on, were finally discharged as part of the Sweet settlement, first class. The remainder of my loans were in Private loans and I am still paying on those as there are no programs that I qualify for. We sold our house for the sole purpose of paying off the {$74000.00} that I still owe ( due to very high interest rates and deferments early on when we couldn't afford the payments ). We close on the sale of our house on XX/XX/XXXX and as a last ditch effort before we pay this off, I wanted to reach out and see if there was any hope you could offer of a way out instead of paying. We are not people that run away from our bills, but we have paid the original balance and much more by now and feel that we have more than done our part. I understand if there is no hope, but for our family 's future, it's worth asking a few more people at the last hour, before we throw $ XXXX down the toilet. Over the years, my wife has written to the President, the ombudsman, XXXX and XXXX trying to bring attention to the school and to the predatory nature of XXXX XXXX . At one point, we were paying over {$1500.00} a month for just the private student loan and over {$1200.00} of that was going straight to interest and not because of an interest only payment. It was the term of the loan with over 19 % interest rates at the time. I appreciate your time.
