I was contacted Friday XX/XX/year> in the afternoon by an individual whose phone number was flagged by my cellular service provider as a scam phone number. After 5 attempts to call the same number that was on my caller ID, someone finally answered from what sounded like a very make-shift office. When I asked her name, she refused to disclose it, but had no problems rattling off my social security number back to me. I disclosed my identity, she told me that if I did not resolve the matter in full by this week she would note I was refusing to pay the debt. She did not provide the required mini-miranda required by FDCPA, and I have not received any initial written notification stating my account was turned over for third party collection efforts. I told her I would address the matter directly with the original creditor, to which she replied " You can't do that - you have to deal with me. '' She did mention she was recording the conversation. Today I received a text message threatening adverse credit reporting if I did not contact them immediately at XXXX, with a reference number attached to the text message. In the meantime, the original creditor has offered me a reduced settlement amount, so it seems like collection efforts are taking place from both ends.
