Consumer Narrative

I am asking the CFPB to require XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to recall my credit-card accounts from Kohn Law Firm and allow me to resolve them directly. Kohn is not following fair debt collection practices and has not provided the legally required written notice of my rights. XXXX transferred two charged-off credit card debts ( originally from XXXX XXXX and XXXX ) to Kohn Law Firm on 09/24/2025. After that date, I never received any written validation notice from Kohn. I did not receive any letter stating the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor, or my 30-day right to dispute the debt. When I finally spoke with Kohn by phone, they read back a phone number that belongs to someone else I know. That person told me they had been getting calls for months and assumed they were scams. When I pointed this out, Kohn immediately deleted the number and would not repeat it. This indicates that their prior contact attempts and any notices were going to a third party, not to me. During my calls with Kohn, two different representatives refused to discuss any settlement or payment options unless I completed their financial disclosure form and gave them my employer information, salary, and detailed monthly expenses. I explained that I am not comfortable sharing such sensitive information with a third-party law firm due to privacy and data-breach concerns. I told them I am willing to work out a reasonable payment or settlement, just not on the condition that I turn over my private financial details. Both representatives told me that if I would not provide a financial statement, then I would have to pay the full balance and they were done. I then contacted XXXX directly and explained : that Kohn had the wrong phone number, that I had not received any written notice from Kohn, and that I am trying to resolve these debts but do not want to give unnecessary personal financial information to a law firm. XXXX told me there was nothing they could do because the accounts were with Kohn and refused to escalate or recall the file. I want to be clear that I am not disputing that the debts exist. I have already settled or entered payment plans with other creditors and collection agencies and am actively working to clean up my credit. My complaint is about how Kohn is collecting these debts : failing to provide a written validation notice, using incorrect contact information so notices went to someone else, and conditioning any discussion of payment options on me disclosing my employer, salary, and a detailed financial statement. I am asking for CFPBs help to correct these issues so I can resolve the debts in a lawful, fair, and privacy-respecting way.
