Consumer Narrative
I am writing to formally request the removal of negative remarks on my credit report related to late student loan payments due to a lack of proper notification during a transition period between loan servicers. For context, this was my very first federal loan ever taken, over 7 years ago ( when I was XXXX ) I was not informed enough to understand the entirety of our agreement and when I would have to start making payments ( years later ) Background : Originally, my student loan was managed by a company called XXXX XXXX. In or around XX/XX/XXXX, this company was acquired by XXXX a completely different loan servicer. Unfortunately, during this transition, I was never properly informed of the new payment schedule or due dates. My contact information ( such as email, phone number, and even address ) changed around the same time, and I relocated to a different state, which may have contributed to missed communications. Reason for Missed Payments : I only became aware of the missed payments ( 7 months too late ) when I checked my credit report on XXXX XXXX and noticed negative marks. Prior to this, I had not received any direct notice from XXXX regarding when payments would be due or even that the responsibility had shifted to them. As a result, I inadvertently missed payments for the two separate loans that I was not aware were due. Steps Taken : The first step I took was to call XXXX, and ask for some grace and goodwill, I explained to them my situation and how this accidentally happened. XXXX was unwilling to help me and also stated that they are not the ones who control the late payment remarks. Since discovering this issue, I have placed my account into forbearance, provided the necessary updated contact information, and made my first payment under the new arrangement. After I was made aware of the late payments and negative remarks, I created a dispute with XX/XX/XXXX, about 30 days later they denied my dispute, likely because I didn't see a good enough option under disputes that described my situation.
