I discovered a {$560.00} XXXX debt on my credit report that was being collected by I.C. System Inc. In XX/XX/year>, I exercised my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and sent them a clear " refusal to pay '' notice via certified mail, which they received on XX/XX/year>. Under federal law, once a debt collector receives a refusal to pay notice, they can only send me very limited communications, basically just to tell me they're stopping collection efforts or to notify me of specific legal actions they might take. Instead, I.C. System violated the law by sending me contradictory and confusing communications. In XXXX, they sent me a letter claiming collection efforts were " terminated, '' but then immediately included standard debt collection language saying they were " attempting to collect a debt '' and provided unsolicited debt verification trying to get me to pay. They also falsely claimed I disputed the debt. They stated in their letter that " your dispute has been noted, '' when I never disputed anything.
