Consumer Narrative

I opened an account with HSBC about a year ago, specifically their XXXX XXXX account for higher net worth individuals with international activities. They sent an email saying they were going to be removing accounts that don't meet their income requirements XX/XX/year>. I still meet those requirements and I informed them as such. They closed my account, which resulted in me losing access to my online profile and any information about that account and they took my money ( over $ XXXX ). They didn't inform me about this until I logged in to make a payment from that account, only to find it was closed and it redirects me to their login page repetitively. I have called HSBC multiple times, resulting in XXXXXXXX XXXX in phone call fees, only to get the runaround and terrible customer service... they point me to a form that I have to find, print out, fill out ( with information I can't provide because I don't have access to my account profile anymore, nor was it provided when I opened the account ), and this form also requires me to get it certified, which is fine, but I can't actually complete it. The end result is that HSBC has done this to probably thousands of people, most of whom don't even know their account was closed, let alone knowing how to get their money back. I assume I'm a fairly average customer of theirs, but it's possible they could be hoarding cash and calling it " unclaimed balances ''. When they call it unclaimed, it implies the customer hasn't tried to get it.... but it's highly likely they have no idea how to get it or don't even know it was taken without their authorization. I think this is a multi-million dollar fraud, possibly much larger, depending on the scale.
