Consumer Narrative

While reviewing my Equifax credit report, I was frustrated and dismayed to find three accounts being inaccurately reported as having late payments, despite each being closed, fully paid, and showing XXXX past due balances. These accounts are : The first is XXXX XXXX XXXX, ending in XXXX, reported on XX/XX/XXXX. This account is fully closed and paid, with XXXX past due, yet Equifax continues to reflect it in a way that falsely suggests I was delinquent. The second is XXXX ending in XXXX, reported on XX/XX/XXXX, also fully paid and closed. Despite this, it is being reported as if I missed a payment, which is false and misleading. The third is XXXX, ending in XXXX, reported on XX/XX/XXXX, again showing a closed and fully paid status with no past due, yet Equifax continues to report it inaccurately. These inaccuracies are more than minor errorsthey directly violate the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Under 15 U.S.C. 1681e ( b ), credit reporting agencies are required to ensure maximum possible accuracy of the information they report. Reporting paid and closed accounts as late is the exact opposite of accurate reporting. Under 15 U.S.C. 1681i, I also have the right to a reasonable reinvestigation of disputed information, yet these accounts remain incorrectly reported despite my documentation and prior disputes. The consequences of these errors are tangible. Each false late payment impacts my credit score, misrepresents my financial history to lenders, and creates barriers when I apply for credit. It is unfair, stressful, and exhausting to see accounts that I responsibly managed continue to appear derogatory on my credit report. Repeatedly confronting these errors feels like an uphill battle, and it undermines my trust in Equifaxs ability to report accurately.
