On XX/XX/year>, I received a collections notice from Rent Debt Automated Collections ( RDAC ) for {$170.00} related to XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ). This was the first time I learned of this balance, as no prior notice or itemized bill had been provided by the apartment. On XX/XX/year>, RDAC mailed me a validation packet including a partial lease and an itemized bill. I then requested in writing that RDAC confirm the following : ( 1 ) if I pay, the account will be closed in full, and ( 2 ) the debt will not be reported to any credit bureau. RDAC has not responded to this reasonable request, instead insisting on phone-only communication, which does not provide a paper trail. Without written assurance, I can not safely resolve this balance without risking long-term credit harm. Being sent to collections can negatively affect a consumers credit for up to seven years, which is disproportionate to the small balance at issue and could have been avoided if proper notice had been given by XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) before sending the account to collections.
