Consumer Narrative

I recently obtained my credit report and found information that is inaccurate and harmful to my credit history. Specifically, my credit file contains an account ( XX/XX/XXXXXXXX ) that I never authorized to be reported, nor did I give my consent for them to be furnished to any credit reporting agency. At no time did I provide written authorization, verifiable electronic consent, or any other form of permission allowing this information to be included in my credit file. LEGAL VIOLATIONS : Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), 15 U.S.C. 1681b, a consumer 's credit file may only contain information obtained for a permissible purpose, which generally requires the consumer 's express consent. The inclusion of this account in my filewithout documented proof of my consentconstitutes a direct violation of this section and represents the unauthorized use and disclosure of my non-public personal information. Additionally, under FCRA XXXX05B ( 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ), when a consumer submits a report to the Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ) identifying disputed information, the credit reporting agency must block that information within four ( 4 ) business days. I submitted such a report to the FTC ( Report Number : XXXX ), which clearly identifies the disputed items. Despite this, Equifax continues to report the account, causing ongoing harm. Equifax has also failed to meet its obligations under FCRA 1681e ( b ), which requires that credit reporting agencies maintain only accurate, verifiable, and complete information in a consumer 's file. The lack of verifiable documentation from the furnisher or the agency demonstrates that this legal standard has not been met. As a result, my credit score has been negatively affected, limiting my access to credit, housing, and other essential financial opportunities. Specifically : I have been denied for legitimate credit applications due to this unauthorized account When approved for credit, I am forced to pay significantly higher interest rates I was recently denied rental housing because of this negative information My insurance premiums are higher due to credit-based pricing This has caused ongoing financial stress and embarrassment
