Company : TransUnion LLC Product : Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports Issue : Failure to block/remove fraudulent identity theft information Complaint Narrative I am filing this complaint against TransUnion LLC for repeated violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), specifically 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ( FCRA 605B ). I am the victim of identity theft. An unauthorized residential lease and related collection account has appeared on my TransUnion credit file. This account is fraudulent, does not belong to me, and is the direct result of unauthorized access to my personal information. The fraudulent tradeline appears as follows : Collection Agency : XXXX XXXX XXXX Original Creditor : Current Retail Balance : {$11000.00} I have now submitted four ( 4 ) separate, full, and valid FTC Identity Theft Reports to TransUnion documenting this fraud, including my most recent FTC report filed on XX/XX/year> ( FTC Report No. XXXX ) FTC-XXXX Despite receiving multiple valid identity theft reports and supporting documentation ( including government-issued ID and proof of address ), TransUnion has refused to block or remove this fraudulent tradeline. This refusal is unlawful. Under 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ( a ), a consumer reporting agency must block the reporting of information identified in an identity theft report within 4 business days of receiving : Proof of identity ; A copy of the Identity Theft Report ; and Identification of the fraudulent information to be blocked. I have provided all of these items on multiple occasions. XXXX and XXXX have both complied with their legal obligations and removed this same fraudulent tradeline. TransUnion stands alone in refusing to comply. Violations Failure to block identity theft information within 4 business days as required by 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ( a ). Failure to conduct reasonable reinvestigation under 15 U.S.C. 1681i ( a ) despite repeated disputes and supporting documentation. Failure to ensure maximum possible accuracy under 15 U.S.C. 1681e ( b ) by knowingly continuing to report fraudulent and inaccurate information. Harm TransUnions unlawful refusal to comply with federal law has caused : Credit denial and reputational harm due to the fraudulent {$11000.00} collection. Emotional distress and significant time and resources spent disputing this account. Ongoing exposure to negative credit reporting that other bureaus have already corrected. Consumer Statement : I affirm that I am the victim of identity theft, and I have complied fully with the statutory requirements. TransUnions refusal to block this fraudulent account violates federal law and has caused me significant harm. Immediate CFPB intervention is warranted.
