Consumer Narrative
I received correspondence from Eastern Account Services regarding an alleged debt owed towards XXXX. The letter was not dated and was received via USPS, XX/XX/year>. My account with XXXX was closed on XX/XX/year> in person at their XXXX store in XXXX XXXX with an immediate termination of service. I have a receipt for the closure of the account and the in-person return of equipment. The account was current at the time of closure, as confirmed by their associate, and closed prior to the beginning of the following months service. The service had exceeded the contract period, so no penalties would have applied. I have received no further correspondence, statements or bills from XXXX via mail, email or phone since the closure of this account, but was charged {$93.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. I was not sent a statement or bill related to this charge which was proceeded as a recurring payment under the payment arrangements while the account was in service ; however, the service had ended with the closure of the account. I did not authorize this charge and I was not provided a bill or statement of what this charge was for, so I disputed it with XXXX and it was removed. XXXX has since placed the {$93.00} with Eastern Accounts. After asking them to provide a statement for proof of the debt. The provided statement only lists that XXXX claims I owe them {$93.00} for the chargeback itself. I have asked eastern to provide a statement for the actual goods or services rendered for which XXXX claims they are owed {$93.00}, but Eastern will not provide it and claims the statement listing only the chargeback is sufficient proof of a debt. While I understand that a merchant is entitled to place a charged back charge for collections, claiming that I owe them simply for the chargeback itself is not an acceptable statement of a debt as it does not list the goods and services for which they initially attempted to charge me. XXXX failed to provide a statement of the debt in the original bill which is why it was charged back. I can not account for what these charges are for. I do not believe it is reasonable for them to attempt to substantiate finds owed based upon the chargeback considering it was charged back because they never sent a bill and made an unauthorized charge to my account - if they believe I owe them money, it is not that I owe them money for the chargeback, they need to provide a statement of the actual goods or services they are claiming I owe them for.
