CFPB Complaint Narrative American Express Fraudulent Accounts I am a victim of identity theft. Fraudulent accounts were opened with American Express in my name without my knowledge or authorization. These accounts include : - American Express XXXX - American Express XXXX Opened up first in XX/XX/year> I never applied for or consented to these accounts. As soon as I discovered them, I filed an FTC Identity Theft Report and a police report to document the fraud. I also provided American Express with dispute letters, copies of my government-issued ID, and proof of my current address. Despite this, these fraudulent accounts remain associated with my credit file and are still being reported to the credit bureaus. Under FCRA 605B ( 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 ), I have the legal right to have all fraudulent information blocked from my credit reports within four business days of submitting proof of identity theft. Additionally, under the Fair Credit Billing Act ( FCBA ), I am not liable for any charges or balances on accounts created or used fraudulently. I request that the CFPB ensure American Express : 1. Immediately acknowledges these accounts as fraudulent. 2. Ceases all collection efforts related to them. 3. Stops furnishing these accounts to the credit bureaus. 4. Provides me with written confirmation that the accounts have been closed as fraudulent. I have attached the following supporting documents : - FTC Identity Theft Report - Police Report - My dispute letters to American Express - Government-issued ID and proof of address This matter has caused significant harm to my credit and financial reputation.
