Consumer Narrative

I am a victim of identity theft. I recently discovered that my personal information has been used without my authorization to open fraudulent accounts and apply for services, including IT related services and other financial and accounts that I did not initiate.Upon reviewing my credit reports, I found multiple unauthorized inquiries that I did not recognize. After further investigation, I confirmed that my personal information was exposed in both the XXXX data breach and the XXXX data breach. These incidents released critical data such as my name, Social Security number, and date of birth making me vulnerable to identity theft. To formally address this, I have : Filed an Identity Theft Report with the appropriate law enforcement agency, Notified the credit bureaus of the fraudulent activity, Requested that they block and remove all unauthorized information. Despite my efforts, the fraudulent accounts and inquiries remain on my credit report, negatively impacting my credit profile. Section 605B ( 15 U.S. Code 1681c2 ) Block of information resulting from identity theft : I have submitted a valid Identity Theft Report, and under this section, the credit reporting agencies are required to block fraudulent information within 4 business days of receiving my request and supporting documentation. Section 611 ( 15 U.S. Code 1681i ) Dispute procedures : I have disputed the inaccurate and unauthorized items on my credit reports. The credit bureaus must conduct a reasonable reinvestigation within 30 days and correct or delete any inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information. Section 602 ( 15 U.S. Code 1681 ) Congressional findings and statement of purpose : The FCRA was enacted to ensure fair and accurate credit reporting and to protect consumers from the misuse of personal information. The continued reporting of fraudulent information violates the spirit and intent of the law. Attachments : Identity Theft Report ( Filed with FTC ) Government-issued photo ID
