Jefferson XXXX is illegally re-aging a collection account on my credit report. The last activity on the original account was in XX/XX/XXXX, which means the account should have been removed from my credit reports as of XXXX in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Acts 7-year reporting limit. Instead, Jefferson XXXX is reporting the date they purchased the account as the Date of First Delinquency in an apparent attempt to keep the account on my credit report for a longer period of time. This practice violates 15 U.S.C. 1681c ( a ) ( 4 ) & 1681c ( c ) ( 1 ), which clearly state that adverse information can not be reported more than seven years after the original delinquency date and that furnishers are prohibited from changing that date to extend the reporting period. I am requesting that the CFPB investigate this matter and require Jefferson XXXX to : 1. Correct the reporting to reflect the original delinquency date of XX/XX/XXXX, and 2. Immediately delete the account from all credit bureaus as it is past the legal reporting period.
