I am the victim of a possible identity theft. I recently received a letter from Shermeta Law Group PLLC on behalf of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX claiming I owe a debt of {$580.00} allegedly incurred through a credit account with XXXX XXXX XXXX I never opened any such account and was unaware of its existence until I received this letter. I disputed the debt over the phone with XXXX XXXX back in XXXX of 2025 and I was sworn at and they asked for my SSN and to verify identity over the phone. The overall tone of that call felt like it was fake. Even when I asked them to provide me with information they refused but demanded more personal info from me and I felt scared and hung up. Fast forward to more recently I sent Shermeta law group pllc a response to their letter sent to me on XX/XX/XXXX in writing and requested full validation under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ). In response, Shermeta Law Group failed to provide any signed application or agreement, proof of my liability, shipping address for the goods, or sufficient details of what was allegedly purchased. Instead, they provided vague billing statements that referenced generic items such as crewneck shirts with no sizes or shipping addresses listed. They then demanded extremely personal and sensitive documents, including my drivers license, Social Security card, five samples of my signature, a notarized affidavit, and a police report, even though they have provided no legal proof that I am the debtor. I believe this is an abuse of the collection process and may be a violation of my consumer rights. I am filing this complaint to report that I am being pursued for a debt that does not belong to me and that the collectors involved are making it difficult, if not impossible, for me to dispute it properly under the law.
