Consumer Narrative

Consumer Complaint Against American Express I have been a loyal American Express customer for over seven years. Despite this long-standing relationship, American Express abruptly and unilaterally closed my account without cause. I have already filed a separate report regarding the improper closure itself, but this current complaint addresses the ongoing and unlawful obstruction of access to my account information following that closure. Even when an account is closed, a consumer still has a legal right to access statements, pending transactions, and dispute resolution toolsespecially when there is a remaining balance, open disputes, and ongoing financial reconciliation. American Express is now refusing to allow me to log in or access my historical account data, which directly interferes with multiple critical financial processes. Specifically : I currently have a balance due, which I am being denied a clear and accurate way to track or verify. I have open disputes that require documentation uploads, status monitoring, and further communication. I must be able to review past transactions for fraud or unauthorized charges prior to closure. I need access to official account statements for my records and tax documentation. I am traveling internationally for the next six months, so requesting paper statements is not a viable or timely solution. Despite this, American Express has been repeatedly calling me and harassing me about the unpaid balancewhile simultaneously refusing to give me login access to pay it. They expect me to call and speak to an agent every time I need to make a payment, without providing any consistent, trackable, or reasonable way to monitor what I owe, whats been paid, or what remains due. This is not a functional or legitimate billing process, and certainly not a standard expected of a major financial institution. This contradictiondenying me access to pay while threatening collections and calling me nonstopmeets the threshold of harassment. If American Express wishes to be repaid, they must offer a lawful, accessible, and realistic method to do so. What they are doing now is predatory, obstructive, and abusive. By blocking access to my financial history and refusing to provide a functional path to resolution, American Express may be violating : The Fair Credit Billing Act ( 15 U.S. Code 1666 ) ; Regulation Z of the Truth in Lending Act ; And consumer access rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act if any information impacts my credit. This behavior is indefensible. I have never experienced such a sharp decline in service from a financial institution I once trusted. I would never recommend American Express to anyone based on this experience. I will be escalating this to the, XXXX XXXX XXXX, state consumer protection agencies, and any relevant financial regulatory authorities until I am granted full access to my account records and given a valid path to resolve my balance and open disputes. American Express closed my account in direct retaliation for a prior CFPB complaint I filed, after they refused to resolve clear financial regulatory violations.
