On or about XX/XX/year> I applied for an American Express Card. Upon submission of application, I was immediately sent an e-mail stating I need to call them to provide further information. I have a medical disability that prevents oral communication. As such, the federal law, Americans with Disabilities Act, fully applies to me and my application with American Express. I used the ADA authorized process offered by my cell phone provider to contact American Express via voice relay. The overseas AmEx representative refused to accept this as valid communication. Finally, she stated she suggested calling a family member who could speak on my behalf. She did call, but then hung up. I used ADA compliant voice relay again and a new overseas AmEx representative told me they needed to verify I had a deposit or credit account with my bank. During the call, the AmEx representative hung up and never called back. I then got a written online decision from AmEx stating they needed to call my bank to verify I had an account. The letter stated they could not act on my application until I called them to assist them to contact my bank and verify a deposit or credit account. I called AmEx again using ADA complaint voice relay. Again the representative did not want to accept ADA compliant voice relay as valid contact. Then she inexplicably stated they required IRS tax returns or my application would be refused. When I told her about the decision enter I just received stating otherwise, she refused to listen.
