I received a Form 1099-C from Discover Bank indicating that the account was cancelled and reported to the IRS as income. However, this same account continues to be reported as an outstanding delinquent or charged-off debt on my credit reports with all 3 of the major credit bureaus ( Equifax, Experian, TransUnion ) . This is causing harm to my credit profile and may be in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) and IRS guidelines. If the debt was indeed cancelled and reported to the IRS, it should no longer be reported as collectible or delinquent on my credit report. I have contacted the creditor, but the issue remains unresolved. Resolution Requested : Immediate correction or removal of the account from my credit report, or at minimum, proper updating to reflect the debt as cancelled and {$0.00} balance owed. Investigation into whether the creditor is complying with federal reporting guidelines. I have attached supporting documents including a copy of the 1099-C and my recent credit report ( s ) showing the continued reporting.
