Consumer Narrative
I am submitting this complaint to formally report a series of fraudulent credit inquiries that have appeared on my Equifax credit file. These entries were made without my authorization, and I have no established relationship with the entities that conducted the inquiries. I believe I am a victim of identity theft, and I am requesting that the CFPB take appropriate action under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ). Overview of the Issue : After reviewing my credit file, I noticed multiple hard inquiries linked to businesses I have never contacted or applied for credit with. I did not provide consent for these inquiries, and I suspect that my personal information has been compromised and used fraudulently. Identity Theft Documentation Submitted : In compliance with 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2, I have submitted an identity theft report, including supporting evidence such as a police report and/or an FTC Identity Theft Report . This report legally obligates credit reporting agencies to block and remove any information resulting from identity theft within four business days of receiving documentation. Legal Basis for My Dispute : The following legal rights and responsibilities have been violated : 15 U.S.C. 1681b ( c ) : These inquiries were made without a permissible purpose or consumer authorization. 15 U.S.C. 1681c-1 ( a ) ( 2 ) : I had a fraud alert placed on my file, which should have prompted a verification of my identity before processing any inquiry. 15 U.S.C. 1681c-2 : Despite receiving notice of identity theft, Equifax has not removed the unauthorized inquiries. 15 U.S.C. 1681i ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ) : Equifax failed to perform a timely and adequate reinvestigation as required once I submitted my dispute. Disputed Inquiries Equifax : I am specifically disputing the following six ( 6 ) hard inquiries listed on my Equifax credit report : XXXX XX/XX/year> XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/year> XXXX XX/XX/year> XXXX XXXX XXXX XX/XX/year> XXXX XX/XX/year> XXXX XX/XX/year> These inquiries are completely unauthorized and should be immediately deleted under FCRA provisions. Requested Action : I respectfully request that the CFPB investigate this matter and hold Equifax accountable for their failure to : Remove the unauthorized credit inquiries from my file. Provide evidence of proper identity verification from the companies listed above. Ensure compliance with federal requirements for handling identity theft reports and consumer disputes. Thank you for taking the time to review my complaint. I am prepared to provide any further documentation you may require to resolve this matter.
