I was encouraged to open a XXXX credit card at checkout by a store associate, and I used it only once for that single in-store purchase. After receiving the card in the mail, I intended to set up autopay ( as I do with all my cards ), but I mistakenly forgot to activate it or revisit the account, as I wouldnt be using the card. This was an honest oversight not an attempt to avoid payment. I eventually paid off the balance in full ( including fees ), and I even overpaid the original transaction amount. Despite my otherwise spotless payment history, XXXX reported a 30 and 60-day late payments on this one small transaction, and has refused to remove the marks from my credit report. As a result, my credit score has dropped over XXXX points out of proportion to the severity of the mistake, and far beyond what seems fair for a one-time, low-dollar lapse. I have repeatedly asked for a goodwill adjustment, which many issuers offer in cases like this, especially when the consumer has made good on the balance. I am asking the CFPB to help review this case, as I believe the reporting is unnecessarily punitive and damaging to my long-standing good credit.
