Consumer Narrative
I opened a business savings account in XXXX of 2025 with Capital One to earn interest on a sum of money loaned to me by the XXXX in the wake of my business and home being destroyed by XXXX XXXX. Shortly after opening the account I was contacted and told to provide additional information, such as a lease or utility bill. During the call I was told that it was not pertinent and there would be no consequences for not submitting this information. In XXXX I mistakenly transferred money the wrong way- from my operating account to the capital one savings account, which led to an account hold due to insufficient funds from the operating account. I spoke to a representative in XXXX to resolve this issue and initiate the correct transfer. This was the last communication I had with capital one in regards to the account. No emails, no letters. The only contact I received was promotional advertisements for credit cards via email and mail. On XX/XX/XXXX I logged into my mobile banking to check on my funds when I see that the account had been closed on XX/XX/XXXX. I had {$20000.00} in the account, which I no longer have access to. I called Capital One on Monday XX/XX/XXXX, and spoke with a supervisor named XXXX, who informed me that so long as the check that they mailed hadnt been cashed, they could expedite the check and have it overnighted to me by Friday, XX/XX/XXXX. I called again today ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and spoke to a supervisor named XXXX, who informed me that I would need to sign and send back an affidavit and cover letter and that the funds would be held for 90 days. Not once did Capital One notify me that they were closing the account or that they had sent a check with the remaining funds. They did not give me sufficient notice to move my funds or warning to provide additional documentation. Capital One is withholding critical funds from a small business which has been devastated from a natural disaster. Im incredibly frustrated and disappointed in my experience with Capital One.
