Consumer Narrative
I requested the original contract that would verify that medical services were indeed provided to me and not a family member using my information to receive medical services and having it appear on my consumer report and not theirs. I explained that medical information was also not allowed to be reported on a consumer 's report in certain situations. It also came to my attention that this same account was being reported twice and that the only difference was the account number. This is in fact a double violation that is being furnished to all three of the major consumer reporting agencies ; TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. All three have refused to provide me with any information with my signature, and all three also refused to delete. The Final Rule that I sent to them was the following : CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU 12 CFR Part 1022 [ XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX Prohibition on Creditors and Consumer Reporting Agencies Concerning Medical Information ( Regulation V ) AGENCY : Consumer Financial Protection Bureau . ACTION : Final rule. SUMMARY : The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) is issuing a final rule amending Regulation V, which implements the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), concerning medical information. The FCRA prohibits creditors from considering medical information in credit eligibility determinations. The CFPB is removing a regulatory exception that had permitted creditors to obtain and use information on medical debts notwithstanding this statutory limitation. The final rule also provides that a consumer reporting agency generally may not furnish to a creditor a consumer report containing information on medical debt that the creditor is prohibited from using. DATES : This final rule is effective [ INSERT DATE 60 DAYS AFTER DATE OF PUBLICATION IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER ].
