Consumer Narrative

Subject : Complaint Regarding Inaccurate Credit Reporting by State Employees Credit Union Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am writing to file a formal complaint against State Employees Credit Union ( SECU ) for what I believe to be erroneous and potentially illegal reporting practices related to my credit file. I seek your assistance in resolving this issue, as my own efforts with SECU have not been successful. The issue centers on a vehicle that was repossessed some time ago, and for sure no payment, meaning no activity. Despite the significant lapse in time, SECU has continued to update my credit report monthly. These updates suggest new activity on this account, even though there has been no actual activity or payment since the vehicle & # 39 ; s repossession. The continued updates are incorrect and misrepresent the true status of the account, which I believe violates the Fair Credit Reporting Acts stipulations regarding the accuracy and currency of reported debts. Recently as of XX/XX/year>, I was informed by credit monitoring service that a delinquent account has been reported or update don my credit file. After investigation, it was determined that State Employees Credit Union was the creditor that had placed the update. As I investigated further, apparently this has not been the first time! I spoke to them in person, I was told by a representative that as long as the charge-off carried a balance, they would update my credit report. My understanding, since I have not made a payment or created any additional activity, that from the date of the last payment should be the date reported on my credit file.
