I am filing this complaint because a credit bureau is reporting an account on my credit file without my informed consent, which I consider a direct violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) 1681b. Although it is possible that I signed a document at the time the account was opened, I was never notified nor clearly informed that this account would be reported to credit reporting agencies. I did not receive any disclosure or written explanation about how my non-public personal information would be used. According t o FCRA 1681b, a valid legal purpose and proper authorization are required to report any information to a credit reporting agency. The lack of informed consent makes this reporting unauthorized and a violation of my financial privacy. I submitted a formal dispute to the credit bureau requesting evidence that I gave informed consent. I also cited FCRA 1681i, which states tha t they must verify or delete any information they can not confirm within 30 days. To date, I have not received any documentation proving that I authorized this reporting, nor has the account been removed from my credit file.
