I am filing this complaint because Capital One is reporting repeated monthly charge-offs for the same account on my credit report, from XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX. A charge-off is a one-time event, yet they continue to report it every month, which is inaccurate, misleading, and harmful to my credit profile. I disputed this with XXXX and they answered my dispute indicating the issue was resolved, when it was not. When I verified my credit report, the same inaccurate and harmful information is reported by XXXX, which resulted in the issue not being resolved. I have also initiated a dispute with XXXX XXXX and I am currently waiting for their response. This reporting practice appears to violate the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( 15 U.S. Code 1681i ), which requires furnishers to provide accurate and non-misleading information. I am requesting that the CFPB investigate this matter and that the creditor correct the reporting to reflect only the original charge-off date. In addition, I have not received a 1099-C form for this canceled debt, which is required for tax reporting purposes. Under IRS guidelines, creditors must send a 1099-C when canceling a debt of {$600.00} or more. The lack of this form further complicates the accurate reporting and resolution of this account.
