Consumer Narrative

Equifax is knowingly reporting a fraudulent and unauthorized collection account ( XXXX XXXXXXXX ) on my credit file, despite multiple disputes. Both XXXX and XXXX deleted this account immediatelyyet Equifax continues to verify it without providing a single shred of valid documentation. Even worse, the account doesnt list the name of any collection agency or original creditor, which is a blatant violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( 15 U.S.C . 1681e ( b ) ). If they cant even identify whos allegedly collecting the debt, how can it be verified? This is a serious problem. As a collection account, it also falls under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Under 15 U.S.C. 1692g ( b ), debt validation must be provided after a disputeyet Ive received nothing. On top of that, 15 U.S.C. 1692e ( 8 ) prohibits reporting a disputed debt without clearly disclosing that it's disputed. Equifax is allowing that to happen, which means theyre enabling illegal behavior. Equifax is also violating 15 U.S.C. 1681i by failing to conduct a real reinvestigation. Verifying an account without identifying the creditor or supplying proof is not complianceits negligence. And lets not forget, this account was reported without my consent, in violation of 15 U.S.C. 1681b ( 2 ). It is unauthorized, unverifiable, and incomplete. This account is actively harming my credit, my financial stability, and my ability to secure housing and loans. Equifaxs refusal to fix thiswhile the other two bureaus already haveis unacceptable. I demand its immediate removal and will pursue all available legal and regulatory remedies if this situation is not corrected without further delay.
