Consumer Narrative
I am filing this complaint against XXXX XXXX XXXX for failing to notify me of an alleged charge following the end of my lease in XX/XX/XXXX and and Carter-Young , Inc for continuing to collect a debt that I had repeatedly explained to them I was not aware of. At no point was I informed by XXXX XXXX XXXX email, phone, or mailabout any outstanding balance. In XX/XX/XXXX, I specifically reached out to the previous management team and asked if there were any remaining charges I needed to address. At the time, the current property manager continually quoted prior " Previous Management '', and I explained I made a point to double-check with the former management to ensure I left with a XXXX balance because they had not called the company to remove me from paying the electricity. I was told nothing was owed by previous management, but the current manager would not give me any information or proof of documention as why I was being charged now nor if proper communication was made. Despite my efforts to close out the lease properly, I received a letter from a debt collection agency, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX months after the lease endedattempting to collect {$310.00}. This was the first time I had ever been made aware of any such charge. XXXX XXXX XXXX failed to provide any formal communication regarding this balance within the laws of XXXX. Had I been notified, I would have addressed it immediately. Instead, their lack of transparency and communication resulted in a completely avoidable collections action that has caused unnecessary stress and damage to my record. I recently received an email from the collection agency with the documents that XXXX XXXX XXXX had provided them. With that being said the letter that was sent was the very first time I had seen it. I had pointed out to the collection agency that it is very easy to Photoshop a document like this after so much time has passed. I have told the agency over and over again my roommate and I were never informed of the charges and yet they keep trying to collect the debt. I had hoped they might see an issue when I pointed out the fact that my roommate also never received communication of the same debt from the apartment complex.
