Consumer Narrative

In XX/XX/XXXX, I entered into a payment agreement with XXXX XXXX XXXX to settle my debt owed to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. The arrangement was facilitated through XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I paid a total of {$13000.00}, which included {$9300.00} for the debt settlement and the rest in fees to XXXX XXXX XXXX. Despite fulfilling my obligation by XX/XX/XXXX, I did not receive a paid settlement letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX until recently, after filing a complaint with the XXXX Due to the absence of a settlement letter, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX sold the debt to XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX for the full amount of {$20000.00}, despite the debt being settled. When XXXX informed me that they had sold the debt and XXXX began their collection efforts, I provided XXXX with the settlement agreement we had reached. XXXX immediately issued me a Form 1099-C for the balance ( around {$11000.00} ), which I was responsible for in XXXX. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue, XXXX claims the matter is with XXXX even though it should have never gone to them as I had already paid for it before it was incorrectly ( and potentially illegally ) sold. None of the businesses involved know what happened and keep tossing me around like a hot potato. XXXX XXXX : I am seeking assistance from the CFPB to resolve this matter by having XXXX remove their negatively reported line of credit from all three main credit bureaus and recognize that they sold the debt twice : once in XXXX ( settled ) and again in XXXX ( after it had been paid ). Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
