I settled this debt with the collection agency and they agreed to remove any reporting off of my credit and clear the account. they also sent me a letter showing the satisfication of the that debt to them and the original debtor, but it still remains on my credit report. I tried to dispute it with the credit bureaus and they said after contacting the agency it remains valid. I found out through some personal research about the agency. That only according to " their records '' the debt will be satisfied and they will issue you a letter for proof of it for your personal business reasons but they try to keep the debt on your credit because it wasn't a full payment of the original sum you owed to the original debtor ; that it was just a settlement. Which in my eyes is illegal. The contract states if you make that payment agreement, that debt is considered settled/paid in full, so there's no reason it should be attached to my credit still. I think they are just trying to strong arm a desperate person to maybe pay it again or pay the " remaining balance '' so they can get every penny.
