Consumer Narrative

On XX/XX/year>, I received the results of a dispute I filed with Equifax under Confirmation # XXXX. My dispute requested that Equifax update the payment history on several open accounts that I have always paid on time, as they were missing payment history on my credit report. Instead of correcting the missing data as requested, Equifax deleted these accounts entirely from my credit file, which was done in error. The Equifax dispute results, which I am submitting as supporting evidence, specifically show that the following accounts were wrongfully deleted instead of updated : XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( Account # ending in XXXX ) XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( Account # ending in XXXX ) XXXX XXXX ( Account # ending in XXXX ) XXXX XXXX ( Account # ending in XXXX ) These accounts were in good standing and were an essential part of my credit history. I did not request these accounts to be removed, nor was I informed that deletion was a possible outcome of my dispute. Equifaxs actions violate the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) in multiple ways : FCRA 611 ( a ) Equifax is required to conduct a reasonable reinvestigation of disputed information and ensure the accuracy of my credit file. Instead of correcting the accounts as requested, they took the extreme and unnecessary step of removing them entirely. FCRA 607 ( b ) Credit reporting agencies must follow reasonable procedures to ensure the maximum possible accuracy of consumer reports. Deleting positive, accurate accounts instead of making a minor update is not a reasonable procedure. FCRA 623 ( a ) ( 2 ) Information providers must promptly correct and update information when they become aware of inaccuracies. If the furnishers of these accounts did not request their removal, Equifax must reinstate them. I have attached a copy of Equifaxs dispute results ( pages 3-4 ), which confirm that these accounts were deleted in error.
