Consumer Narrative
I reached out to XXXX XXXX XXXX about an apartment that was placed on my credit report in XXXX. I advised that I had moved from the apartment in XXXX and the manager at the time allowed a sublease to my brother. The lease expired in XXXX, and my brother left a balance according to XXXX XXXX Apartments. I reached out to XXXX XXXX after receiving notification of the balance and informed the manager that my brother was disputing the balance stating that he had paid the balance. I advised the credit reporting company that the manager stated that they would look into the balance and let me know if anything is owed. At that time in early XXXX, I updated XXXX XXXX with my mailing address and a new email address due to receiving tons of spam on my other email. I hadn't heard from XXXX XXXX since. XXXX XXXX never placed the balance on my credit and didn't update me about the investigation on the balance. I filed bankruptcy in XXXX, and my attorney filed and notified all parties who were listed on my credit report at the time and all who I had a bill from. At no time had I received any other bill from XXXX XXXX, and they had not reported to my credit report with any balances due. In XXXX, I noticed that a new creditor had reported to my credit report. I then notified XXXX XXXX XXXX about the bankruptcy, and they refused to remove the balance saying that they didn't see their company listed. I asked when they received the balance from XXXX XXXX, and they stated in XXXX. I explained that XXXX XXXX had not notified me properly of any balance due at the time and neither did the collections company. I advised that per bankruptcy law, they have to diligently attempt to collect from me prior to my chapter XXXX bankruptcy and they had not. I advised that the balance was disputed, and I was told that I would receive an update that I never received. I explained that a chapter XXXX bankruptcy had been filed in XXXX and discharged in XXXX absolving me of all of my prior debts. I also disputed with the credit bureaus. The credit bureaus are saying that I must reach out to the creditor to remove the debt and when I spoke with the creditor, I was hung up on by XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX was decently helpful but also said that she will investigate my claims and call me back after our second conversation and she had not. I asked for proof of notification of the debt and all I received was a ledger of the balance.
