In 2022 we had a kitten that was super sick and ended up passing unexpectedly. The vet we took her to cremated her and there was a remaining balance of {$300.00}. At the time we were not able to pay it. I kept trying to make a payment but wasn't able to and then when I was able to start making payments the interest had raised the balance so high I wouldn't be able to pay it anymore. I tried to talk to the original creditor about lowering the interest owed and the only offer they ever gave me was so minimal it would make no difference because they wanted payment upfront for the full amount which was still out of my reach, even with being able to make some payment. The vet then passed it along to a debt collection agency. The debt collections agency has told me they can not provide the original contract showing I agreed to those interest rates or even that they were outlined in the contract. The debt collection agent has told me they do not own the debt, that they have no record of the original contract, and that this will impact my credit if I don't pay it. She has repeated the threat of it on my credit report in the hopes that I will simply pay the full debt. I have no problem paying the debt that was originally owed and perhaps the 6 % interest/per year but to charge me an interest rate that there was no original agreement to that amount is not something I feel comfortable with. I agree we received the services but with no justification for the interest rate and its increases as outlined in the " bill '' the collection agency has sent me, I do not feel comfortable just agreeing and paying it.
