I opened XXXX CDs with Barclay 's last year. Later in the year they wanted everyone to establish new online access. I tried several times and the system said it couldn't find me. I called and was told there was no SSN associated with my account and to send an official document with my SSN on it via email. I sent a 1099 form which happened to have my whole SSN on it to their Deposit Research Dept and am now nervous that it wasn't secure. ( It is very hard, btw, to find a document with the whole SSN on it. ) I then realized I could establish a new online login using an account number. I got into my account and saw that my SSN is actually wrong by XXXX digit. I was told to send another email with my SSN attached, which I stupidly did. So far nothing bad has happened, my identity has not been stolen. BUT THEY STILL HAVEN'T CORRECTED MY SSN. ( I even got the XXXX for XXXX CD that matured last year and it has the wrong SSN. ) I called another couple times, the last time around XXXX and was told my issue would be " escalated '' by their Deposit Research Dept . I 1 ) am worried that having emailed my SSN wasn't safe and 2 ) want them to put the correct SSN on my accounts!
