Consumer Narrative
In XX/XX/year>, I was awarded a check in the Equifax data breach and signed up for credit monitoring. Last week a mysterious email arrived in my inbox. It was saying I had XXXX in funds from the Equifax breach, and I needed to enter the code provided to retrieve a prepaid card for a virtual wallet. My husband did not want me to click on any links in the email, as we are very cautious at this point, so I did some research and found that this might be legitimate. I called Equifax and they gave me the number for the XXXX XXXX XXXX even though I explained that I did not think it was right to ask me to put more of my data online. Well way back when, Equifax was lax with my data and now they would like to give me some money from the lawsuit that ensued from this lax, however, they have farmed this out to an offshore cardholder services company, to give me a virtual prepaid card, however, in order to redeem, I have to give out my information to this cardholder services company, then shop only online. I am sure they probably gave Equifax a discount, because if I give this cardholder services company my data, they will sell it and I will be bombarded with offers from all over the place, just like Equifax bombarded me with credit card offers after I signed up for the credit monitoring service. So I have been tossed back and forth all day between Equifax and this XXXX XXXX XXXX. All I want is Equifax to send me a check and XXXX employee number XXXX, just informed me that they can't do that. XXXX, I believe is also offshore somewhere, as he also has a pronounced accent and lots of noise in the background. Although it would be nice to have the money Equifax owes me, however, it is not worth XXXX dollars to have my information in yet another database that these companies can not seem to secure, so instead, I am filing a complaint, in hopes that it will wake the consumer protection bureau of what
