I and my grandmother were both left voicemail by someone who I was later told is a " compliance officer ''. I called back at the number I was provided XXXX and was told that I owed an amount to XXXX XXXX that was deemed uncollectable and the company, who provided the name Summit, is filing legal claims for XXXX allegations. I asked how to cancel the claims and made an arrangement to pay {$100.00} from every paycheck. I asked them for documentation of the debt and the payment arrangement and they stated they can not provide anything until it is fully paid. Looking further into it I decided this was likely a scam and canceled the card. I reached out to the original creditor and determined that through a long line of resales the debt was eventually sold to the company trying to collect ( Summit ). I called them back and requested a validation notice and they stated they are not required to provide it since they are not a collector and are not collecting a debt but instead filing a legal suit. I asked for an address to send the dispute letter to and they also stated they can not provide an address. The issue I have is that they made a payment arrangement ( that billed to my card as XXXX ) previously to cancel the suit, and since I canceled the card believing it to be a scam they are now stating they will be continuing the legal suit with an additional breach of contract. As the company refuses to provide any proof of the debt or any documentation of payment arrangements, I do not feel comfortable giving them money from each paycheck when I am already struggling to pay the bills.
