Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter in the mail from Target XXXX Card dated XX/XX/XXXX stating " an authorized user asked to be removed from your Target Credit Card account. We made this change on XX/XX/XXXX and deactivated their card at that time. I called immediately and asked how this letter could have been generated on this date because I removed my ex-husband as an authorized user on my Target account in XXXX, XXXX. I received all types of excuses including " it was a system glitch '' until I finally reached XXXX the Supervisor of the XXXX XXXX who researched and told me that on XX/XX/XXXX my ex-husband called and she used his first name, not once but twice but she couldn't tell me what was discussed. I asked her why anyone would discuss my credit card account with anyone other than me since I am the only XXXX on the account. XXXX said that if a caller calls in and has my name, address, telephone number and Social Security number they can discuss my account with them because they assume it is me. She stated that nothing was done, no card was deactivated as the letter stated and no one was removed from the account since I requested his removal in XXXX of XXXX and Target generated a letter confirming in XXXX, XXXX. She would not email the XXXX letter to me. When I said that my privacy was violated with those phone calls she said that since it wasn't a case of fraud her department doesn't handle violation of privacy issues and Target doesn't have a department that handles violation of privacy issues. At that point the call was disconnected and the whole thing took approximately 3 hours. My assumption is that Target did not remove my ex-husband as an authorized user on my account in XXXX as I requested otherwise information would not have been discussed with him on XX/XX/XXXX and the letter dated XX/XX/XXXX would not have been generated. My divorce was final in XXXX of XXXX. I am shocked at the violation of privacy.
