Consumer Narrative
Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am submitting a formal dispute regarding inaccurate information on my credit report, which I believe is the result of identity theft. Specifically, there are collections and closed accounts with reported balances and late payments that I do not owe, and these accounts do not belong to me. I have provided a copy of the Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ) Identity Theft Report, which confirms that I am a victim of identity theft. I have taken appropriate steps to resolve the issue, including filing a police report and placing fraud alerts with the major credit bureaus. Despite these actions, certain accounts continue to reflect balances and late payments that I did not incur, and collection agencies continue to report debts I do not owe. I am asserting my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), which mandates that all information on my credit report be accurate and verified. Under this law, I have the right to dispute any information that is incomplete or inaccurate. In addition, I am entitled to request that any information related to identity theft be removed from my credit report if it can not be properly validated. The accounts in question are : DISCOVERBANK - XX/XX/year> - XXXX I request that the CFPB assist in ensuring that these incorrect collections, balances, and late payments are investigated and removed from my credit report. If the accounts can not be properly verified as mine, I am requesting that they be deleted from my credit history, in compliance with the FCRA. I have already reached out to the credit reporting agencies and the collection agencies involved, but this issue remains unresolved. I am requesting your assistance in investigating these claims and ensuring that my rights under the FCRA are upheld. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt assistance in correcting these inaccuracies. Please remove the accounts listed above as they were not authorized by me. All accounts above were opened fraudulently and were not authorized by me. Please remove all of these negative accounts on my credit report as soon as possible.
