On XX/XX/year> when I was routinely monitoring my credit report I noticed that my credit score drastically decreased due to federal student loans being taken out in my name. I attended an accredited college 10 years ago and already hold a XXXX XXXX so this is identity theft. The thief used fake references, phone numbers and email addresses. I have no affiliation with the XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX and they did not do their due diligence in confirming the identity of the thief before admission to their institution. They did not collect high school transcripts or look at identification. I immediately called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, all 3 credit bureaus to report the fraud and dispute the accounts. I had to complete police reports, ID theft affidavits, FTC reports, freeze my credit and a bunch of other tasks. In total {$3500.00} was taken out. Since then the XXXX XXXX XXXX continues to collect disbursements on the loan with my personal information with the most recent one being paid XX/XX/year> and has not unenrolled me or investigated this as requested formally in a letter. They also requested I submit personal information such as social security numbers and a driver 's license through unsecure methods ( unencrypted email. ) I requested information about where the money was being remitted and what classes I was allegedly enrolled in and have yet to receive it while the keep me in the " enrolled '' status at their University. XXXX denied my dispute request and did not perform a proper investigation even though all the information was incorrect on their report. Again the phone numbers and email addresses were fake as well as the references. I am still waiting to hear back from Equifax and XXXX. My credit score continues to be impacted.
